Why does it still hurt when the X-ray is normal?

• X-rays are useful for fractures and alignment but do not show every muscle, ligament or soft-tissue change.
• The accident direction, onset of pain, movement and neurological symptoms are assessed together.
• Worsening weakness, numbness or severe headache needs prompt medical evaluation.

We look at when the symptom began, what makes it better or worse, movement, daily activities, previous tests and current medication. Treatment is selected after the examination.
